Meet Founder,
Sandra G. Hunter
30 years in higher education and TRIO leadership and founder of SCR Next Step Consulting.
Founder Bio, Sandra Hunter
Sandra G. Hunter is the founder of SCR Next Step Consulting, bringing over 30 years of experience in higher education, including 19 years in TRIO, to her consulting and training practice. She has served in leadership roles at Florida State University, Mercer University, Beaufort County Community College, Craven Community College, and, most recently, at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she directed multiple TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) programs and Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program.
Sandra’s deep expertise in federal TRIO grants is underscored by her recent success in the 2025 SSS grant competition. She authored two full SSS proposals, one for an SSS Classic program, which was successfully funded for a new five-year cycle, and one for an SSS-STEM program, which placed in the funding band, a significant achievement and testament to her strategic and technical grant writing skills.
As a first-generation, low-income college graduate herself, Sandra understands the transformative power of TRIO programs firsthand. Her mission is to empower programs, staff, and students with the tools they need to thrive, through personalized consulting, hands-on workshops, and sustainable program development strategies.
